MY STORY
“Your wishes, your family, your legacy.”
Losing both my father and my mother gave me a personal understanding of just how overwhelming it can be when a loved one passes away.
While grieving, I found myself navigating a long list of responsibilities that many families never fully anticipate. I had to manage probate, act as an executor and trustee, deal with family trusts, organise bank accounts, close savings and overseas investments, sort personal possessions and jewellery, sell the family home and ensure that every aspect of my parents' affairs was handled correctly and respectfully.
It was an emotional and demanding experience. At a time when I should have been focused on remembering my parents and supporting my family, much of my energy was spent managing legal, financial and administrative matters. More than anything, I wanted to protect the legacy they had worked so hard to build and ensure their wishes were carried out exactly as they intended.
That experience taught me a powerful lesson: the greatest gift we can leave our loved ones is clarity and certainty.
Having properly prepared Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and, where appropriate, Trusts in place can make an enormous difference. These legal arrangements help ensure that your wishes are known, your family is protected, and those you leave behind are not burdened with unnecessary stress, uncertainty or avoidable complications during an already difficult time.
